Case Study for Customer Location CO61:
Reservoir or Lake Use:
Industrial wastewater, plastic-lined pond located at milk product manufacturer. This pond is a sludge storage pond following an activated sludge process. Water is decanted off the top of the pond for re-use in the plant. The pond is dredged once per year.
System Overview and Reservoir:
Pond is 0.8 acres, 18 ft deep, 4.7 million gallons capacity, with a flow rate of 0.05 MGD of 1% waste activated sludge. Plant was running 250 hp grid aeration 8 hours per day for odor control.
Reported Problem Before Installation:
Primary objectives were to control odors and reduce high energy costs for aeration.
Installation:
Date: December 2000, installed one (1) unit equal to SB2500* with 24-hour electrical kit. No intake hose was installed and the odor cap is formed in the top 20 inches or so.
Results: Manager reports that the SolarBee is doing great. Their 250 hp aeration system, which had been put on standby service since the SolarBee was installed, broke down about the same time as the SolarBee installation but was not repaired since it was no longer needed. Customer is very pleased with both good
odor control and with the significant savings (approximately $25,000//yr) by not having the expenses of aeration.
