...Approximately six months ago, (we) installed three solar mixers in a 9-acre lagoon. This lagoon will be going out of service when our new aerated lagoon goes online. Before the mixers were placed into service we measured sludge depth throughout the lagoon. There was significant reduction in sludge depth in the six months of service. On average we saw a 4-inch reduction in sludge depth.
The mixers were installed to operate twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. During those six months we experience no odor related to their operation. We have been very pleased with their operation, and when the ice goes off our new lagoon they will be placed in the final two cells. This will save on electrical demand at our blower building....
